Who are we

Let's go back to Winter 2002, the fishing season on the lake is dismal and a group of fishermen from Roberval (around ten) decide to install their shacks alongside the Saint-Jean Lake, in the Pointe-Scott bay, and to put up a small village around a skating ring. This activity, in the beginning organized for their families, friends and acquaintances soon became, in the following years, a great success, drawing more and more people. Successively, trailer and fishing shack owners came to join the initial group in order to gradually create a longer skating ring.

At the beginning of the 150th festivities for the City of Roberval in 2005, the members of the 150th organizing committee with the help of city officials, aware of the potential of this winter activity, decided to create, within the context of the 150th anniversary festivities of the City, a very original old-fashioned village on ice, bringing together more than 150 residents.

After an enormous success during the winter of 2005, for the Roberval old-fashioned village, a group of volunteers in conjunction with the City of Roberval founded a new not-for-profit corporation named the Roberval Village on Ice, in order to take over what the 150th organizing committee had started. The objective was to insure that the highly original physical, sports and social activities endured.

Newly constituted in 2006, the members of the board of directors of the Roberval Village on Ice had to take on an enormous challenge, making room for more than 300 shacks instead of the original 153.

A challenge that was brilliantly met by the corporation administrators and volunteers. This feat was in great part possible thanks to the immense collaboration of the owners and residents of the Roberval Village on Ice and of the City of Roberval. The 309 residents were able to merge together to form neighbourhoods including 5 to 7 shacks, laid out around a skating ring and a pedestrian pathway, each measuring one kilometre. This distance represents a psychological objective easily met by most users, whatever the age or the physical condition.

Our mission

The Roberval Village on Ice's mission is to manage, to be the driving force and to coordinate from early January until the end of March of every year recreation and sports activities on the Roberval Village on Ice, situated on the majestic Saint-Jean Lake. Our aim is the well-being of the residents of the village, of the tourists and the community.
